ABOUT THE JEAN DE LA FONTAINE MUSEUM

The birthplace of the famous poet, Jean de La Fontaine, is a town house in the heart of the town of Château-Thierry in France’s Aisne département. It was transformed into a museum in 1876 and classified as a historical landmark in 1910.

The museum retraces the life of the poet and travels through time and space to explore his work and the artists it inspired. It boasts the official designations of Musée de France and Maison des Illustres.

The city of Château-Thierry is undertaking a major restoration and development project to restore the quality of the museum's state of conservation and enhance the collections by doubling the exhibition space. The restoration of the museum fundamentally contributes to the revitalization of the city.

JEAN DE LA FONTAINE AND MARCEL DASSAULT

It is also a symbolic place for the Dassault Group, whose founder, Marcel Dassault, was an ardent admirer of Jean de La Fontaine, and said:

If, as in the famous game, I had to go to a desert island, I would bring with me La Fontaine, where I find everything one could desire: morals, wisdom, poetry, dreams.”

The Dassault Group is proud to take part in the restoration of this place that shapes the identity of our country and brings French history and culture to life.

The financial support of Dassault History & Heritage will spur other public or private financial contributions, for the acceleration and completion of the work necessary.
